Kathy Griffin invoked the specters of neighbors past during a court hearing Thursday, claiming that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were better neighbors than the person she is currently living next to: millionaire CEO Jeffrey Mezger. Griffin stated in court that she never had any issues with the world-famous couple when she lived next door to them back in 2016 (in fact, she said at the time, they were “fantastic neighbors”). On the other end of the spectrum, however, Griffin has had an ongoing feud with Mezger since she and her boyfriend, Randy Bick, moved into their shared gated Los Angeles neighborhood in 2016.
The trouble started, according to Kathy Griffin, when she and Bick filed noise complaints against her neighbor to the police shortly after moving in. Mezger responded with profane and sexist name-calling toward Griffin, which was caught on security camera audio. Following the KB Home director’s outburst, Griffin filed for a restraining order against Mezger; he followed up with a restraining order of his own against Griffin. Since then, the pair have engaged in a spat of he-said/she-said, with Griffin claiming that Mezger has been throwing trash on her property and blasting Johnny Cash music in her direction, and Mezger accusing Griffin of spying on him with audio and video devices. The judge ruled Thursday to keep both their restraining orders in place and to give the adversaries one week to inform him of any settlement plan. Maybe there’s a house available next to Kimye’s newest mansion for Griffin to buy, and put all of this to rest.
